A Perfect Summer Evening at Bishop’s Garden
Some engagement sessions come together perfectly, and Erica and Joe’s evening at the Bishop’s Garden was one of them. Beautiful summer light, lush gardens, historic charm, and even a little rain made for the perfect backdrop for their engagement portraits.
One of Washington DC’s Most Beautiful Engagement Locations
If you’ve never visited the Bishop’s Garden, you’re missing one of Washington DC’s hidden gems.
Nestled beside the magnificent Washington National Cathedral, the garden feels like you are stepping into another world. Winding stone paths, colorful flowers, ivy-covered walls, stone archways, and plenty of little spaces to stop and enjoy the breathtaking gardens and architecture, while I create beautiful romantic portraits.
As a Washington DC engagement photographer, it’s one of my favorite locations because every turn offers something different. Whether you’re surrounded by lush greenery, framed by historic stonework, or standing beneath towering cathedral architecture, the scenery is simply stunning.
The gardens are especially magical during the summer when everything is in full bloom and the evening light filters beautifully through the trees.
Chasing Beautiful Light
I scheduled Erica and Joe’s engagement session during golden hour, and Mother Nature absolutely delivered. The soft summer sunlight wrapped around them as we wandered through the gardens. I had scouted locations for their session so I knew exactly where to go for beautiful light and pretty backgrounds.
Some of my favorite photographs happen when couples allow themselves to simply slow down, forget that I am there, and enjoy each other.
Walking hand in hand.
Laughing together.
Stealing quiet moments.
Those authentic interactions create images that feel natural and effortless—exactly the kind of photographs you’ll still love decades from now.
Then Came the Rain…
Just as we were finishing the session, the skies opened up with a light summer drizzle.
Instead of racing for cover, we embraced it.
Rain has a way of making everything feel peaceful.
The gardens became quieter, the colors richer, and the light – soft and beautiful.
Honestly, it was the perfect ending to a beautiful evening in Washington DC.
Why Engagement Sessions Matter
One of the biggest reasons I encourage every couple to schedule an engagement session is because it allows us to spend time together before the wedding day.
By the time your wedding arrives, you’ll be relaxed and know exactly what to expect.
You’ll feel comfortable in front of the camera.
You’ll know how I photograph.
And most importantly, you’ll be able to simply enjoy each other while I document your day naturally.
It’s also a wonderful opportunity to create photographs that celebrate this exciting chapter before becoming husband and wife.
Counting Down to the Wedding Day
Watching Erica and Joe together made one thing incredibly clear—they genuinely enjoy being around one another.
I cannot wait to photograph them again when they’re surrounded by family and friends, exchanging vows, celebrating, and beginning the next chapter of their lives together.
Congratulations again, Erica and Joe! I cannot wait for your wedding day.
