Ever since Emilyn’s 1st birthday, Ben has been telling me that he wants a cake smash for his birthday. I debated for a while, (insanely!) about having a birthday party with all of his friends where everyone got to smash cake. What was I thinking??… if even for a moment?
Here is the anticipated moment in a 4 year old’s life. His birthday cake smash! It was almost a complete smash… as I was bringing the cake into the studio, I tripped on the last step and flew across the room… cake, camera bag and camera in hand. I went the entire way across the studio, in slow motion of course, and somehow managed to not kill myself or smash Ben’s cake into the wall! Ben was so sweet and said “Whoa!” when I finally stopped falling. All I could think about as I was flying across the room was blue icing on white carpet… will that ever come out?!
Ben is a neat little guy so the thought of him wanting to smash cake surprised me a bit. His daddy told him he should do a face plant in his cake… that did not happen! Everyone wanted to get in on the action. Emilyn circled a bit and gradually worked her way onto the set. Ben gave her a bite. After feeling invited to join, she gets this knowing smirk and dives in. Funny thing, they both made little holes in the cake with their fingers. Keeping to a “his” and “hers” side. Daisy, our dog, even came around looking for crumbs. It was a fun day that we all laugh about now!
