A Magical Family Session at Scarlet Springs Farm in Waterford, VA
If you’ve never visited Waterford, VA, you’re missing out on a town steeped in charm and history. Nestled in Loudoun County, Waterford was established in 1733 by Quakers seeking religious freedom. Today, it’s celebrated as a National Historic Landmark, known for its beautifully preserved 18th and 19th-century architecture. Walking its quaint streets is like stepping back in time, where every cobblestone and structure tells a story of resilience and heritage.
One of Waterford’s hidden gems is Scarlet Springs Farm, a stunning location that made the perfect backdrop for a recent family session I had the joy of photographing. This private session was extra special, not just because of the playful energy of the little ones but also because it featured the farm’s enchanting Highland Cows.
A Little About Highland Cows
These shaggy beauties originate from the Scottish Highlands, where they were bred to endure harsh winters and rugged terrain. Known for their long, flowing coats and gentle demeanor, Highland Cows have become iconic symbols of Scotland—and they bring the same photogenic charm to any setting. Their calm nature made them perfect companions during this session, adding a unique touch to the family portraits.
From cuddles with the cows to capturing the kids’ laughter as they explored the farm, this session was overflowing with joy. Editing these images has been a delight, bringing me back to those heartwarming moments shared in such a breathtaking setting.
