Life is a beautiful journey filled with milestones that shape our lives and create lasting memories. As a witness to Nick and Karen’s journey from their engagement, to their wedding, and now having a family, I have had the privilege of capturing many of their special moments. Today, I am thrilled to share the joyous arrival of their newborn son, Easton.
Nick and Karen’s wedding was an intimate celebration with family and friends at Cedar Run Brewery. It was a gorgeous day for their wedding. We took portraits around the grounds in the Christmas tree farm, along the stream bed, and near the pumpkin fields. I love exploring new places searching for the perfect backgrounds and pretty light. Anytime I can be photographing a wedding at a brewery, winery, or on a farm is a good day. Today, as I captured Easton’s first portraits, it was a joyous day made even more special as Nick’s parents celebrated the brewery’s 4th year anniversary.
During Easton’s photo session, he was determined to stay awake and was curious about the world around him. I had to work swiftly, taking advantage of the moments after his feedings when he was most likely to drift off to sleep. Despite his wakefulness, I was able to capture some heartwarming and tender poses. However, as anticipated, Easton’s bright eyes soon opened, and he longed to be snuggled up in his parents’ arms.
One of the most memorable moments of the photo session occurred when Easton’s two-year-old brother, hid behind the nursery curtain. Peeking out to see what was happening, he inadvertently created an endearing and candid shot. I quickly captured the moment and the photos continue to bring a smile to my face. It is moments like these that are truly unexpected and capture the essence of this family dynamic.
Over the years, I have learned that children are going to do what they want to do and as a photographer, it is my job to adapt to their unique personalities and embrace the flow of life. These candid and unexpected moments during a photo session become the stories families fondly recall years later. They laugh together as they reminisce about the moments they begged, bribed, and finally gave in to the peeking-out-of-the-curtain moments.
I urge you to treasure the unexpected moments that unfold in your family’s journey. These unique occurrences, whether joyous or frustrating, make us who we are. They form the fabric of our lives, weaving together memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. Embrace the spontaneity and allow yourself to be present in the joy and laughter that fills these unexpected moments. For it is within them that you will find the true beauty of your family’s story.
As I captured Easton’s first portraits, I couldn’t help but reflect on the journey I have shared with Nick and Karen. From their engagement to the arrival of their precious sons, every milestone has been a testament to their love and the beautiful family they have become. I am grateful to have been a part of their story and look forward to witnessing the many more wonderful moments that lie ahead.
Remember, it’s the unexpected that often brings us the greatest joy.
