Korean-American Wedding at River Creek Club | Leesburg VA Wedding Photographer

There are weddings that are beautiful, and then there are weddings that feel completely, unmistakably personal. Joanna and Joshua’s wedding at River Creek Club in Leesburg, Virginia, was definitely the latter.

With the Potomac River as their backdrop, gorgeous outdoor scenery everywhere you turn, meaningful Korean traditions, a seriously fun reception, and a few very cool personal touches, this was one of those wedding days that was a photographer’s dream.

A Meaningful Nod to Korean Heritage

One of my favorite parts of Joanna and Joshua’s wedding day was seeing them embrace their Korean heritage in such a beautiful and meaningful way.

For part of the day, Joanna and Joshua wore authentic Korean wedding attire that their family had sent all the way from Korea. Knowing that made these beautiful pieces feel even more special—not simply something gorgeous to wear, but something connected to family, culture, and home.

Joanna wore a stunning traditional bridal hanbok with beautiful birds embroidered into the design. And here’s the really sweet part: the family who chose the gown for her had no idea how perfectly those birds would fit into the couple’s wedding theme. The bird details appeared throughout the wedding, including their table numbers and cake, making her gown feel like an unexpected little piece of the story.

Then They Switched It Up

Later in the day, Joanna and Joshua changed into more traditional American wedding attire for the reception—but, of course, they still made it their own.

Because why wear completely traditional wedding shoes when you can wear Chuck Taylors? This added just the right amount of personality and fun to their reception looks.

And that is exactly what I love about photographing weddings. The best details aren’t necessarily the ones you see on Pinterest. They’re the little choices that make a wedding unmistakably yours.

River Creek Club Was the Perfect Backdrop

If you love being outside, beautiful views, and anything involving the water, River Creek Club is a pretty incredible place to get married.

Set along the Potomac River in Leesburg, VA, River Creek offers gorgeous waterfront views, open green spaces, mature trees, and plenty of beautiful spots for wedding portraits.

Joanna and Joshua are definitely an outdoorsy couple, so spending time exploring the grounds and taking advantage of all that natural beauty was completely their vibe. We wandered around the property, stopping along the way for a mix of fun, relaxed, and beautiful portraits.

And of course, having the Potomac River as a backdrop was especially fitting for Joshua, who loves to fish. It was one more little detail that made the location feel like it belonged to them—not just a beautiful wedding venue, but a place that connected with the things they genuinely love.

The Little Details Were So Them

I loved the thoughtful details throughout the reception.

One of my favorites? The carved bird table number holders.

And then the birds showed up again on the wedding cake!

Those little details tied everything together without feeling overly coordinated or fussy. They felt natural, personal, and connected to the couple—which is always my favorite kind of wedding detail.

And Then It Was Time to Party

Once the reception began, the dance floor did not disappoint.

A2Z Music Factory kept everyone moving and did a fantastic job keeping the energy high throughout the evening.

There is nothing better than a packed dance floor when you’re photographing a wedding. You get the big moments, the ridiculous dance moves, the spontaneous hugs, the laughing, the friends who haven’t seen each other in forever—and all of those little in-between moments that make a reception feel alive.

Joanna and Joshua’s reception had plenty of all of it.
