There is something extra special about summer family photos. The warm evening light, carefree energy, bare feet, big smiles, and those little in-between moments all come together to create the memories of summer.

Summer Family Photos in Northern Virginia
As a Northern Virginia family photographer, there are so many possibilities for outdoor family sessions. Open fields, beautiful trees, gardens, historic locations, and gorgeous evening light can all create a completely different feel for your photographs.
For this summer family session, we embraced the season and let the family simply enjoy being together.
There was laughter.
There were cuddles.
There was movement.
And there were all of those little moments in between the traditional portraits that make a gallery feel personal and alive.
Why I Love Photographing Families in the Summer
Summer has a wonderful way of slowing things down.
Kids are out of school. Families are spending more time together. There are vacations, afternoons outside, neighborhood adventures, and long evenings when the sun seems to hang around just a little longer.
Those are the memories I want to preserve.
When I photograph a family, I want everyone to feel comfortable—not like they’ve suddenly been asked to become professional models for an hour.
I’ll guide you when needed, but I also give your family room to interact naturally.
We’ll walk. We’ll talk. We’ll laugh. We’ll snuggle. The kids can move around.
And yes, I’ll absolutely make sure we get those beautiful family portraits where everyone is looking at the camera, too!

Those moments may seem ordinary right now.

That’s why I photograph the in-between moments just as intentionally as the portraits.
